When buying a painting on stretched canvas, the artwork is already stretched and attached to a wooden frame with a 1.5” depth. This means that the painting is ready to hang on your wall as soon as you receive it. Stretched canvas gives the artwork a polished and finished look, as the canvas is taut and smooth, and the edges are neatly folded and stapled to the back of the frame. Stretched canvas is also less likely to warp or sag over time, as the wooden frame provides support and stability to the canvas.
The other buying option is on rolled canvas and means that the artwork is simply the canvas itself, without any frame or stretching. The canvas is rolled up and shipped to you in a tube or box, and you will need to have it stretched and framed separately at your own expense before hanging it on your wall.
